A pregnant chimpanzee is rescued from a lab by eco-terrorists and gives birth to Charlie, a half-human, half-chimpanzee "humanzee". Fifteen years later, Charlie enrolls in high school, befriending Lucy, an outcast girl. His normal life is threatened when the extremist Animal Liberation Alliance (ALA) reemerges, determined to kidnap him and use him as their symbol, forcing Charlie to confront the conflicts between human and animal worlds.
